How to Save Your Instagram Photos in High Resolution

How to Save Your Instagram Photos in High Resolution

Do you love your Instagram photos? Everybody does – that’s why they post them in the first place. But sometimes, we want to have those photos in high resolution saved on our phone or computer, ready to be used elsewhere if needed.

However, as you already know, Instagram doesn’t let you save high resolution photos of the pictures you have taken and posted on the social network.

Well… not anymore, because I am here to share with you a quick trick that will let you save your Instagram photos in high resolution on your device. Let’s see how to do this – without resorting to third party apps or taking screenshots of your phone’s display!

There are actually multiple methods, depending on what you want to achieve: mainly if you want to save a high quality photo on your phone, from your uploads; or if you want to save a high quality photo from somebody else’s Instagram.

Saving your own Instagram photo in high resolution

It’s all easily done by using a feature that Instagram has, but doesn’t really brag with, making it unknown to most of its users. This feature allows you to save a high resolution copy of the photo you publish, as you publish it – and the said resolution goes up to 2048×2048 pixels (sometimes a bit lower, but still more than enough for most cases!).

Here are the step by step instructions on how to set Instagram save high resolution photos on your phone:

– Launch Instagram and tap your Profile button in the lower right section of the screen
– Go to the app’s settings by hitting the hamburger menu in the top right corner (looks like three parallel lines), then hit the Settings button at the bottom.
– In the new menu, tap the “Account” button and in the new menu select “Original Posts”
– Simple toggle the options there (you can choose to save photos only, or videos too):

Instagram will now save a copy of any and all photos that you publish on the social network, in high resolution (videos as well if you select that option). You will usually find the photos saved in the phone’s Gallery, in a folder named Instagram.

Saving any Instagram photo in high quality

If you want to save somebody else’s Instagram photos in high resolution – or maybe some of your older files that you no longer have stored, that can be done as well, but only using a computer or laptop. Here’s how:

– Launch Instagram on your computer, in a browser (like Chrome, Safari or Firefox) and log in
– Navigate to the image you’d like to save and click it to enlarge it.

Now things will vary slightly based on the browser you’re using, but it will be more or less the same. Right click the image and select something like “Inspect” (on Chrome) or “Show Web Inspector” on Safari through the Develop button:

A bunch of code will pop up, but you should go to the “Sources” tab in the top window and navigate through the listings there until you find the image you’re looking for (it’s usually in the third category) as seen below:

Once you find the photo you want to save, right click the image and select “Open in new tab”. Once opened, right click the image again and save it on your computer.

And this is it! This is all you have to do to quickly enable Instagram to save your high resolution photos!
