Android App Languages: Change One App and Check the Result

Android app languages can help when you prefer one application in a different language from the rest of your phone. Start with a single supported app and check the result before making more changes.

Choose the app and language

  1. Open Settings > System > Languages > App Languages.
  2. Select the app you want to change.
  3. Choose one of the languages it offers.
  4. Open the app and review its menus.

Google notes that some instructions require Android 14 or later. Only apps that support this system feature appear in the list, and menu paths can differ by manufacturer.

If the option is missing

An absent app does not necessarily indicate a broken phone setting. Google explains that developers must support the feature. Some apps instead manage language through their own settings or account.

If the language does not update, Google suggests restarting the app, checking the network connection, and making sure the app is updated. Try these simple checks before considering any action that removes app data.

Use a familiar task to compare

Choose something you already know how to do, such as finding a saved item. Complete it once in the new language. Check whether menu wording, help text, and important confirmation buttons are understandable.

For bilingual work, it may help to keep a short note of the terms used in each language. This is especially useful when following instructions written for a different interface language.

Keep the change manageable

Changing several apps at once can make it harder to identify which setting caused confusion. Keep the first change for a normal work session and decide whether it improves your routine.

Do not assume that changing interface language translates every document, message, or webpage inside the app. Review the actual result and choose a separate translation workflow when the content itself needs translating.
