Safari Reader on iPhone can simplify a supported article so the text is easier to follow. Try it on one familiar website before making it automatic across your reading routine.
Open and close Reader
In Safari, open a supported webpage, tap the Page Menu button, and choose Show Reader. Apple describes Reader as a view of the relevant text and images. To return to the original layout, open the page menu and choose Hide Reader.
Not every page supports Reader. A missing option can simply mean the page is not suitable for this view.
Compare a familiar article
- Read the heading and first paragraph in the normal page.
- Switch to Reader and read the same section.
- Check that the images and information you need are present.
- Return to the full page when you need navigation or other site controls.
For a reference article, check a specific detail against the original page before copying it into your notes. A simpler layout helps reading, but it does not make the underlying information more accurate.
Make Reader automatic for one site
On a supported website, open Page Menu > Website Settings, turn on Use Reader Automatically, and finish with Done. Apple also provides an all-websites option under Settings > Apps > Safari > Reader for sites that support it.
Choose where it helps
A long explanatory article is a good first candidate. A page you mainly use for searching, buying, or filling in a form may require its ordinary interface.
Keep the full-page view easy to reach and avoid treating the simplified view as a complete replacement for the website. After a few reading sessions, decide whether the automatic setting helps on that particular site or whether you prefer to enable it only when needed.
