Apple Might Be Working on Augmented Reality Glasses with Carl Zeiss
If you were really happy about the fact that Virtual Reality is finally starting to kick off and more companies will invest in the technology… well, things might change in the near future as Apple is apparently working on something different. According to trustworthy rumors, Apple might be working on their own futuristic glasses, but these would be Augmented Reality ones and not VR.
Apple is known for not following the trends and deciding on their own what the trends would be, but in this particular case I really hope that their focus on Augmented Reality won’t hinder the progress of Virtual Reality tech. Both are nice, but I personally think that the latter is better.
Either way, Apple might have a different opinion and it’s them who have the billions of dollars, not me. Which is a shame!
Jokes aside, it’s known that Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO is a fan of Augmented Reality. Recently, he declared that AR is better than VR, as well as the fact that the company is “high on” this technology. And now we have further reports claiming that Apple might be indeed working hard on some Augmented Reality glasses together with renowned optical instruments maker Carl Zeiss.
Journalist Robert Scoble claims that insider sources from Carl Zeiss confirmed his story: “A Zeiss employee confirmed the rumors that Apple and Carl Zeiss AG are working on a light pair of augmented reality/mixed reality glasses that may be announced this year,” he wrote. “And that explains why there was no augmented reality in Zeiss’s booth even though it was right in the middle of the AR area.”
This is just the latest in a series of reports and rumors that circulated recently, claiming that Apple is indeed working on a brand new gadget – most likely Augmented Reality glasses.
Of course, there is no official confirmation of the fact so far and it’s probably take a while until Apple confirms the new product – if they are indeed working on such a thing. But with VR games and apps taking over the App Store and Google Play store recently, as well as the great success recorded by augmented reality game Pokemon GO, it wouldn’t be such a big surprise to hear that the iPhone makers want to dip their toes into this water as well.
If they decide to make Augmented Reality glasses, they would certainly become Apple’s biggest new product launch since the iPhone was introduced years ago.
