Android 15 Private Space gives supported phones a separate area for apps you want to keep apart from everyday use. Before filling it with important accounts, start with one app and check how the arrangement fits your routine.
Check support first
You need Android 15 or later and a supported device. Manufacturer restrictions, managed devices, supervised accounts, and secondary-user profiles can prevent access. This guide concerns Android’s built-in Private Space; similarly named manufacturer features may work differently.
Set up Android 15 Private Space
- Open Settings > Security & privacy > Private space.
- Authenticate with your screen lock and follow setup.
- Choose a separate lock or reuse the device lock.
- If signing into Google, consider a dedicated account to avoid shared-account syncing outside the space.
- Install an app inside Private Space and sign in there.
The installation is separate; existing app data is not automatically moved from your main profile.
Know three limits before adding important apps
- Locked Private Space stops its apps, including notifications and background activity.
- Its local app data is excluded from normal device backup; deleting the space removes that data.
- It is not completely undetectable: some apps, device logs, or computer access can reveal its presence.
Google also warns that Private Space apps bypass the device VPN.
Try a low-risk first app
Our suggested first test is an app containing nothing you would regret losing. Create an unimportant sample item, close the app, and practice locking and reopening the space. The goal is to learn the workflow before depending on it.
Write a small checklist for yourself: Can I remember which copy of the app I am opening? Do I know which account is signed in? Can I find the content again after locking the space? If any answer is unclear, simplify the setup before adding more apps.
Decide what belongs there
Think about how often you need each app. Something you open deliberately once a week has a different role from a service you expect to reach you immediately. Choose based on that routine, rather than putting every personal app into the space at once.
Before a phone replacement or reset, make an inventory of the apps you use and check each app’s own export or account-sync options. Verify an independent copy of anything important before removing the original. A clean-looking phone is not evidence that your data has a recoverable backup.
