How to Use a Mouse with an Android Phone or Tablet

Using a mouse with an Android powered device is a lot easier than it is with an iPad, for example. And even though Android phones or Android tablets were not created to be used with a mouse, there are some quick and easy methods to do it.

In today’s article, we’re going to learn exactly that: how to use a mouse with an Android mouse or tablet. Because sometimes you simply want to be able to use one in order to get more precise movement… or when your display is too broken for the touch controls to work, although the device itself is still working.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter what is your reasons for wanting to use a mouse on a Android phone or tablet, we have the solution for you below, so keep on reading!

Method #1 for using a Wireless Mouse with an Android device

First of all, you will need a Wireless mouse in order to make this work. Wired mice unfortunately can’t be connected to your Android phone.

Next, you will need an OTG cable aka an on-the-go cable. This is a must if you want to use a wireless mouse with your phone or tablet. The good news is that these can be easily purchased and are extremely cheap. We recommend using this OTG cable available on Amazon. (affiliate link) It’s one of the best selling OTG cables on the platform and a great, cheap one!

Please note that some phones don’t have support for On-the-go cables (although their number is very low). If you are not sure if your phone or tablet knows how to handle them, do a search on Google (something like “phone’s model OTG support). This will tell you exactly if your phone has OTG functionality.

If your phone is able to handle OTG cables, all you have to do is to insert the cable into your phone, then plug in your mouse’s wireless receiver into the other end.

And this is everything you have to do! Your device will automatically recognize your Wirless mouse and you’ll see the classic mouse icon on your device’s screen. You can now use the mouse with your Android device!

Method #2 for using a Wireless Mouse with an Android device

In case you don’t want to get an OTG cable or your phone doesn’t have support for this functionality, you can also connect a wireless mouse to your Android device via Bluetooth.

This method is a lot easier to use, but you will need a Bluetooth mouse. In case you don’t have one, you can safely choose this model (affiliate link) which has a decent price and is solid for regular use.

After getting your bluetooth mouse, simply turn on your Bluetooth on your Android device and pair it with the mouse.

This is it! Your mouse will connect automatically, without any rooting required or anything like that and you’re ready to use your mouse on your device.

Hopefully our methods prove to be extremely helpful and the step by step instructions are easy to follow.
