Use Windows 11 Snap to keep a source page and your notes side by side, then adjust the divider to fit the work you are doing.
Start with two relevant windows
Open your reference material in one window and your note-taking app in another. Drag a window to the left or right edge of the screen, then use Snap Assist to choose the window for the remaining space.
Use the keyboard if you prefer
Hold the Windows key and press the left or right arrow to position the active window. Windows also supports snapping into other positions with the arrow keys. Select the second window through Snap Assist when offered.
Resize the shared boundary
Move the pointer over the divider between snapped windows and drag it. The adjacent windows resize together. Give the reference page enough width to stay readable while leaving comfortable space for your notes.
Match the layout to the task
Our suggestion is to begin with two windows rather than immediately filling the screen with a grid. When reading a long article, the source may need more room. When drafting a response, your writing window may deserve the larger share.
If you constantly scroll sideways or lose sight of controls, the layout is too cramped for that task. Try fewer windows, a different split or a larger working area. A compact arrangement is useful only when it helps you read and act accurately.
Keep source and commentary separate
When taking research notes, mark direct quotations clearly and record the source link beside them. Put your own interpretation in a separate paragraph. The side-by-side layout makes comparison easier, but it does not automatically keep copied wording distinct from your writing.
Use a short reset routine
At the end of a work session, save the notes and close pages you no longer need. Start the next task with its own small set of windows. A tidy layout should reflect the current job, not become a permanent display of everything you opened during the week.
